Derpadoo

I have no idea what I try to get out of playing games. But Bonedead, they are just games, you say to yourself. Games are there to have fun, you tell me.

Oh you mean they’re not there to make you feel good about yourself because you’re the number one best motherfucker in the whole world (or you’ve wanted to be and never have been lol)?

I don’t know wtf I want, man. Work has been good, got promoted, finally doing real work and feel like I’m contributing to the company while also keeping the internal machine running (company books bro). It feels good. My social life is completely non existent though. I used to go to a bar on Tuesday’s and use some buy one get one on Tuesday’s only text message coupon, but I just can’t get that in to drinking like I used to.

Anyways, I bought Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim this month and have played the crap out of them all. The series is quite enjoyable (though I couldn’t force myself to attempt to stomach the older 2 games). I did get lonely though, even though I play MMOs solo most of the time, I do still enjoy rare encounters when people try to talk to me or something and I ignore them completely most of the time. So, I tried to think of a game I haven’t played in a while that in my memory reminds me most of The Elder Scrolls. Now that may sound like a reasonable thought process, but here is the flaw. Thinking of a game I haven’t played in a while. So from the get go, I don’t REALLY remember anything about it, I am basing my judgement off of a vague feeling I have about a game that I played years ago. The game that I chose is AoC. Yep, you read that right, Age of Conan.

AoC has changed a bit since I last played. It is now free to play with a cash shop. I had 7/8 character slots filled and since I am a free player now, I can only unlock two of them. So, I obviously used the one empty slot to make a new character. There are 3 whole servers for AoC now. One is PvE, PvP, and like Blood and Guts Glory to the Emporer PvP or some equally radical title like that. I chose the crazy one not knowing wtf I was getting into (I still don’t even know the difference).

It is not really like The Elder Scrolls at all, save the questing in Tortage where the NPCs speak. Can’t pick up every little thing everywhere, even though there are a literal fuck ton of boxes that look like chests. It seems like half the mobs don’t even drop loot, though of course every one of them have a sword and shield. But these are things I can get passed, because I realized that there isn’t one fucking MMO that is like that.

I have only played two days or so (and rather lightly, I add) but am honestly not having a terrible time. I barely remember the story so that is good. I have mainly been sticking with the main quest (much like I do in TES) which means I don’t get quite enough exp all the time and need to go outside and kill some shit every now and again.

I have heard plenty of complaining in the Neil Patrick Harris channel (NPH, New Player Help) about people ganking and camping newbs. I imagine this is going on in White Sands as that is where I vaguely remember first encountering PvP way back when. This led me to avoid that area during daytime. However yesterday I did venture there and saw one guy half my level.

I do believe there are level restrictions on who you can attack so it shouldn’t be that bad. Anyways, I shall resume playing it some today. I’m hoping that I will run into one of these griefer guys and that he won’t be way bigger than me.

Oh, I am playing a Demonologist because it was the lowest level I had previously.

That’s it bitches, gtfo!

Age of Conan: First Impressions

Bringing the “Conan World” to life, check.
Make combat feel new and different, check.
Offer a great deal for buying the game, check.
Have a positive newbie experience, check.
Try and continue that positive experience beyond Tortage, not so check.
Having fun open PvP, check.
Having unique feeling battlegrounds, not so check. (see: Guild Wars)
A rarer class makeup, check. (Nothing seems unique anymore)
Possible for a lower level to kill a higher level, check. (Just beat a 39 Necro as a 33 HoX, and I didn’t even wanna fight)
Up to date information available somewhere on the internet, not so check. (Not really Funcom’s fault, but, if a fan isn’t doing it shouldn’t they?)

I think that’s all I have for now, if I kept going my points would seem redundant.

Tortage is an amazing experience. I wish it carried throughout the game, mainly just the voiced NPCs. When you get out of Tortage and run into your first mute NPC it is a bit disheartening. Doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to get a few people in the office to throw on a fake accent and let er rip, audio dude can tweak shit to make them not sound awful, tada! But I don’t really know what I’m talking about.

Another thing that sucks a bit is, I hate to say the lack of direction (or information), but where the fuck am I supposed to go after Khopsefv (or whatever the shit) Province? I went into that Purple Lotus BS Land and ran into a bunch of big ass mobs and a level 41 grinding. Not the place for a freshly 30 to go. So what I’ve done instead is gone to the Aquilonean version of Khopsefv Province which is called uh, the Wild Lands of Zelata? Yeah that zone sucks ass in terms of terrain and getting from quest point to quest point. Plus I’m just doing grey and green quests for a level and now I’m at the Yellow and Red quests.

One thing I really like is climbing spots you probably shouldn’t be able to. What you do is jump a lot and hold sprint and you’ll just fly up mountains sometimes. There was this one quest in Khopsefv Province to get some treasure chest in the bottom of a pond surrounded by elite mobs. It is supposed to be a group quest, on forums people were saying the best path for soloing is to sneak around and yadda yadda yadda, dodge the elites if you’re lucky etc. Well I didn’t do that. Apparently the pond is at the end of a trail of Elites and after it there is a rather small drop off back to normal land. Well I tried to climb up that little drop off and bypass the elites. I got real close but began realizing they put in an invisible wall to deter my actions! Sons of bitches! There were some Minion mobs (non elite) very near the pond that I tried to jump into LOS and do my “charge” ability to them, no dice. So I went a little further up the trail at a steeper point and tried many times again. Eventually I made it up and beat those fuckers trying to block me with their invisible walls, suck it assholes. Soloing group quests for the win mfker.

I’ve PvPed in one of the capture the skull BGs probably 3 times. The queue doesn’t really fill up very quickly, probably because it is the 20-39 BG, but it’s kinda fun. I’ve always been a lowbie buffed to a 39 (which really isn’t enough to level the playing field between a 20 and a 39) so still a bit squishy, so I die a lot or play cautious. The last game I played I did a lot better, sticking together, rooting bad guys picking them off, separating them, etc.

I can’t wait to get to 40 because when I bought the game I got a free Mammoth for every one of my characters, usable at 40. I wanna ride my donkeh!

LotRO’s Welcome Back Weekend

So I heard about this on Massively and since I’ve been tiring in AO, so I figured, maybe I’ll give it a go. The only problem is, I never actually paid for LotRO. I did the free trial exactly two years ago, but I wonder if I’ll be able to download/log in. Who knows (probably can’t).

Anyways, as you can see, my free trial ended exactly two years ago. The welcome back week begins tomorrow. I’m going to remote to my home pc and start downloading (if I can), hopefully it will be done or close to it by the time I get home (never under estimate the power of DSL!).

If I can’t play, who knows, I might just buy it finally. Maybe not though, maybe I’ll buy Conan since I haven’t played that, even in a trial. I’ve been saving money like a good little boy, it’s time to splurge a little.

Here’s to splurging!

This suit is NOT BLACK!

NAWT!

So I am NAWT going to pre-order AoC. I am also not going to play it at release. Why? Well, I just don’t trust it. Capping the OB at 13, why? What the fuck is wrong with 14-80? I know that’s a bad one to base my entire decision on, which is why there is another. Playing at release always sucks, even WoW sucked at release. Now I know there are 5 zillion fucking retards who are already forming stupid shit in their head to tell me I’m wrong, but guess what retards, I’m not. I wanted to play on Archimonde, you know, the PvP server where anyone who was someone in PvP was supposed to go? Yeah that one, the one that made me want to die on release day because it either had a long ass queue, wouldn’t connect, or was laggy as shit/borderline non playable. Yep, I played at release on the server that I would guess was being bogged down the most. So you can go cry in the corner now Mr. WoW Fanboy.

Sure, we can all say well maybe they learned. Especially after Anarchy Online, they should have learned. But then we see this limited beta bullshit. Hmm what was the last thing we heard about betas? Oh yeah, that they ruined Tabula Rasa (ROFL TO ME). So I mean sure, it could be a coincidence that they’re being cautious with their beta (as TR “wishes” they had been), but come on. Simplest explanation usually is the real shit, amirite? You can call that Bonedead’s Razor, budday.

It looks like I’ve got that free time to beef up on my DAoC content. I hope it impresses you, I really want to do a sort of ClassesofCamelot.com dealy, every class, except the shit you wish you knew before you chose the class. Maybe a video of the good ones, who knows. All I know is the longer my posts are, the less retarded I feel, been smokin a whole lot and losin my grip on reality lol, but I’m an evil genius (which means I’m okay). It sucks being one of the few who learned when to say no, I’ve seen quite a few people fall (disconnecting them or “cutting the cord” has become extremely easy for me) and just recently I’ve seen one fall, get back up, and fall again after I reconnected. This weekend I’ve got to disconnect again, it hurts me to do it, it hurts me to see him just swirlin the drain, but he stopped listening to me. All that’s left for me is to tell his momma and forget I ever knew em.

Goodbye SWG, Hello DAoC Trial, See You Soon Conan

Yep, that’s how it goes in the WWW (wild wild west).

My RL buddy that started playing SWG with me and I have decided that we want to play AoC at release. My SWG sub renewed the 1st, so I canceled it a little bit ago. I gotta pre-order AoC now, I want that head start nukka!

Time fillers until then:
1) DAoC trial. I don’t know what class I’m gonna make, but I’m gonna pwn. Maybe a Hunter or Rogue (haven’t played one of those in a while).

2) CS. Always a good way to waste time and feel bad about it.

3) Savage 2. Maybe I’ll finally let that 5 minute patch finish finally and check out what they’ve done with the game. Maybe not.

I would still like to compile my SWG footage into a farewell video, but who knows.

KTHX BAI2U BUDDAY

It’s hard to post when you know you don’t have good content

And it hurts to post bad content, so this hurt.

I’ve been playing a lot of DAoC, lots of Midgard, little bit of Hibernia, and now a future in Albion. I’ve always thought of Albion as the hub for all the 14 year old King Arthur wannabes, and now I’m becoming one! 😦

First here’s links to a lot of my toons, because I know you care so much. A1 means Account 1, which is active, A2 for the inactive second account.
Midgard(not playing)
Yarrdead A1
Notanoat A1
Enurface A1
Glaciergiant A2

Those are the 3 main toons I play in Mid.

Hibernia(didn’t get too far)
Bwndead A2
Sosahrey A1

While working on Sosahrey I discovered my RL friends in the town over were also playing DAoC, just on an Alb ToA server :o, but I think I can do it.

Albion
Afarath A1

Today I’ve asked my friend to help me get Traldor’s Staff, which is an artifact (part of ToA), so that I may use it in Molvik. Molvik is the 35-39 Battleground, besides Thidranki (20-24) it is one of the most popular BGs. I intend to hang around in this BG until I am realm rank 2L5, which gets me some very tasty Wild Power 3 (crit chance +17%) and something else that I’m uncertain of.

The Theurgist is a new class for me. I have an AE mez and a very strong DD. Not to mention pets that I cast on people that proc stuns, these pets can be stacked and can have a chain stun affect on the enemy, which is extremely helpful. I can basically kill just about any class if I land mez on them before they hurt me, which is always a good feeling. Just yesterday I was jumped by a shadowblade who missed his PA (in stealth attack, use in front of target, rape target) who I quickly /faced, quickcast, ae mezzed. Ran back a bit, pet pet pet, dd dd dd, chase, pet, dd, win. I only got hit once or twice while quickcasting mez which took me to about 70% hp. I was level 35(minimum level) and he was level 39(maximum level), so that makes me feel good.

Later I ran into a Shar champion who had been killed recently. This guy scared the crap out of me because he has instant DDs which can ruin a caster. So I start casting mez, he interrupts with a DD, I quickcast mez, am not interrupted by the debuff. Whew that was friggin close, run back, pet pet pet. DD, resist!!! OH NO WHY GAWD WHY DID HE RESIST THE STUNS AND DDS AHHHH. DD, DD, stun, DD, DD, come on you asshole fucking die already, jesus effin christ. Now he’s right on top of me, smack with a big weapon in my friggin face, OW THAT HURTS BUTTHEAD. I quickcast a DD, it lands, yes! He has a sliver of hp left, each swing from his takes a quarter or a third of my life, ahh I’m going to die! I can’t run he can keep up with me, what do I do? TURN AROUND AND STAFF THE MAN! Thank god I buffed myself with my haste and damage add, because I got the pleasure of being a caster who got a deathblow on a tank with his little ol staff.

So how does one celebrate such a victorious uhh, victory? With a /flex directed at my victim of course! Because my muscles are what won this battle for me. It was a great feeling, I couldn’t even see my health bar, and was immediately fearing for my life. So I ran back up to the ck door and logged out.

This game is fun, I really enjoy it every time I play it.

In other news there was a big 2 part interview for Age of Conan, I can’t find the links now but I know they’re posted on PKer.org. I am anticipating this game very much, it sounds very exciting, but I am a tad worried. They say that solo players in the siege warfare will be able to fight over the smaller objectives such as resource nodes and I think towers. I just don’t see this happening, guilds will most definitely go for those objectives as well if it helps them benefit. Running into a guild while being solo is never a fun time. Hopefully the mercenary system they speak of is more advanced than a LFG system featured in most games, because just finding a random group of people to play with on a daily basis is never easy for me, and actually I don’t think I’ve ever done it with people that I don’t know in real life.

A tiny side note, Massively, the new website dedicated to MMOG news is a pretty nifty little doodad. I read plaguelands and he is apparently writing for Massively, which is probably the only reason I went to check it out. So I get there, reload the front page and see some GW giveaway, it says you can win the package of GW games just by commenting on their site, fucking sweet. I was the first comment on the story, hopefully that counts for extra, even though I don’t really play GW much, it would be a nice thing to have for emergency situations.

That’s about it, hopefully my next update will be about how awesome my theurgist is in 50 RvR with his complete template and such.
